At Rise Kohyang High School, sports are more than competition. They are a space where students discover their voice, build confidence, and represent their community with pride. At the center of that experience is Yolanda Galeazzi, Dean of Restorative Practices and Athletic Coordinator, whose passion for athletics continues to shape the Triton experience.

Yolanda’s commitment to students is deeply personal. As a former high school football player, she understands the impact sports can have on confidence, identity, and belonging. She also draws inspiration from her own high school experience, where a supportive English teacher served as a mentor and helped guide her toward success. Those experiences continue to influence how she shows up for students every day.

She now leads a growing athletics program that includes volleyball, cross country, girls flag football, cheer, esports, soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, and track and field, with plans to add wrestling and tennis in the future. Each program reflects a commitment to student growth, teamwork, and pride in representing Rise Kohyang High.

One of her most meaningful contributions was starting the girls’ flag football team at Rise Kohyang High School, creating an opportunity for young women to participate in a sport that had not traditionally been accessible to them. Her vision was rooted in expanding access and making sure more students could see themselves in athletics.

That foundation led to even greater opportunities. After the team was established, Rise Kohyang High School was selected to participate in an NFL-supported pilot program for girls’ flag football. Through this program, the LA Chargers and LA Rams sponsored the team with uniforms, game opportunities, referee fees, and special experiences connected to the Super Bowl. What began as a school-based effort grew into something much larger, giving students exposure and recognition on a broader stage.

Thanks to Yolanda’s efforts, Rise Kohyang High has experienced tremendous growth of their girls' flag football team, which is now a CIF-sponsored sport. It stands as a powerful example of how one leader’s commitment to inclusion can create lasting change.

Today, Rise Kohyang High’s athletics continues to bring students together through shared goals, discipline, and pride. Yolanda’s leadership ensures that academics remain a priority while students also develop teamwork, character, and a strong sense of belonging.

As part of our sports spotlight, Yolanda shares more about the program:

“Our sports program is unique because it emphasizes academics first while also developing teamwork, leadership, and character. We create an inclusive, supportive environment where students are motivated to succeed in the classroom and take pride in representing their school through athletics.”

“What I enjoy most about being an Athletic Coordinator is the opportunity to positively impact students outside of their academic day. Supporting their growth in academics, leadership, teamwork, and character while building strong programs and relationships is both rewarding and meaningful.”

Yolanda’s impact is felt in every practice, every game, and every student who steps onto the field believing they belong there. Her work reflects Bright Star’s commitment to integridad and growth, showing students what it means to lead with purpose and create meaningful opportunities for others.

Through her leadership, Tritons are not just playing sports. They are building confidence, expanding access, and shaping their futures. Thank you, Yolanda, for all you do to inspire our scholars to reach for the stars!
