Why do you enjoy teaching your subject?

I love teaching science because of how it naturally connects to my students’ every day life.

Introducing challenging concepts like gravity through egg drop challenges or thermal heat by building solar ovens encourages students to critically explore how science relates to their personal experiences and the world around them. These experiences in the classroom make learning not only engaging but also sparks curiosity that extends beyond the four walls of the classroom.

What is something you have learned about teaching and/or the profession that you didn’t know before?

Relationships are at the core of effective and transformative teaching. I have seen teaching be most successful when teachers collaborate with other teachers, counselors, staff, families, and everyone who supports students.

I have also seen that real growth happens when I take the time to truly get to know my students, their passions, struggles, and aspirations.
